Poetry Story Time: Mom, Memories and Words
Saturday 12 April from 2.30 – 4 PM in the Underdeveloped Library at Garage Rotterdam
Led by Little Book Project, Poetry Story Time unfolds within the exhibition Underdeveloped #2. The event opens with a reading on 12 April, of the poetry picture book 注音練習 (Bopomofo Exercise). This book highlights the story of an illiterate grandmother who quietly finds her own way to literacy and claims her identity. The reading will be presented in the poem’s original language – Mandarin Chinese – followed by an English translation.
After the reading, you are invited to delve deeper into this story and reflect on your own. Who is the main character beyond the role of ‘mom’ (or ‘grandma’)? What memories shape her, what details have been overlooked? We will conclude the reading session by drawing a portrait of ‘mama’ – a simple, childlike sketch – inspired by memories.
Join us to listen, reflect and create. This reading session is free to attend with an Underdeveloped #2 exhibition ticket.
