An important starting point for all artists taking part in Prosecute my Posture is the power of image and language. Something else that they all have in common is movement or performance. The artists are all using it as a way to express identity, vulnerability and dignity of the body in both an impactful as well as a mysterious way. Even though their work touches on societal and occasionally even political themes, not one of the artists opts for a downright political or loud visual language. On the contrary, these visual artists are making use of delicate material such as paper, glass and silk. The themes are expressed in a subtle way and the works of art have a highly poetic nature. It is as if the artists are constantly challenging the audience to touch their works of art.

Movement Class by Dansateliers

Wednesday evening September 12th, Garage Rotterdam will host the weekly Dansateliers Movement Class. The class is taught by choreographer Connor Schumacher who will perform several guided tours with his robot character The Fool during the exhibition. By the use of physical exercises and tasks he will share the ideas and starting points behind his artistic movement language. The class is open to anyone interested in movement, body awareness, choreography and dance. Everybody is welcome, experience is not required.

The Fool

The Fool is a theatrical guided tour by choreographer Connor Schumacher. Using the basic metaphoric code of Opening and Closing, The Fool analyzes what is real, what is moving, what is meaning and what are the myths we gather around us. The Fool helps us to reflect on the body and its ability to perceive its surroundings and the way it uses the past and the future to help construct meaning for our survival. Following The Fool is to draw a card of new beginnings, to take the risk of not believing, and of childlike wonder.

Garage Café #7

Garage Cafe is a test-site-with-audience for experimenting, showing research projects, new collaborations, performances and all other types of artistic work.

Garage Cafe #7 will open its doors again on the 27th of September, for 6 presentations and performances of 10 minutes, food, drinks, and time to discuss.

Natafelen | Diner Art & Diner

For one night only during this exhibition, Garage Rotterdam turns into a unique setting for dinner & drinks. Enjoying good food and great company in a very special venue. Being surrounded by works of art. This is what Natafelen is all about: a culinary night at Garage Rotterdam. The curator Sjoerd Kloosterhuis and several artists taking part in the current exhibition will join you for dinner and tell you more about their work in-between courses.
Master Chef Laurence van Bergeijk will prepare a scrumptuous, vegetarian three-course dinner. Local and seasonal vegetables are the main ingredients for his dishes. The Gouden Ton, our wine merchant, will serve exquisite wines that have been carefully selected to accompany the food.
