Performance Marthe Ramm Fortun

Marthe Ramm Fortun’s performances present themselves through recited, site-specific texts and ephemeral sculptural boundaries. There are always several languages at play– the linguistic and the poetic; the sculptural and the bodily– interwoven and deliberate, they inscribe closed off institutional spaces with persistent and poetic feminisms. On a lawn of spring flowers in-between the Medieval cast iron fences of access and risk, Fortun presents a new work within the exhibition context of De Stad, de stad.

TALKS about architecture: Mary Duggan

TALKS about architecture is a lecture-series that offers a podium to emerging international architecture practices. TALKS approaches architecture primarily as an artistic discipline which derives its social relevance from its poetical and spatial qualities. TALKS is an initiative of Rotterdam-based architecture office De Kort Van Schaik and is organized in collaboration with AIR.

We are proud to announce that Mary Duggan will kick-off this series of TALKS about architecture. Her lecture on Friday June 14th will be the first of four in the 2019 TALKS about architecture program. Mary Duggan Architects is an architecture and design studio established in March 2017. Duggan is committed to the delivery of well-conceived and thoughtfully-detailed architecture. The ethos of her practice is driven by the ambition to understand the spirit of the places in which they build. Interested in the creative potential of cross-disciplinary interaction, the practice supports a residency program for emerging and established artists and makers. To date this residency includes a ceramicist, an illustrator and a sculptor, all of whom contribute to the development of live projects in the office. Brandstof | Office for Irrelevant Affairs - Performance by Natalia Sorzano

Before moving to Rotterdam, artist Natalia Sorzano worked as coordinator for the LGBTIQ affairs for the Colombian Government. Her performance Office for Irrelevant Affairs addresses the issues she encountered working at a Ministry that neglected and politically instrumentalized sexual and gender identities. The title of the performance is taken from a quote by her co-worker, after a briefing about the threats to the community was met with indifference. Now, years later, Natalia Sorzano remains in touch with her activist colleagues, and looks back at her time as a policy maker in Colombia from her new home town.

North Sea Round Town: Tommy Moustache

Idiosyncratic, Rotterdam-based band Tommy Moustache released their debut album in late 2014, challenging critics to define their ineffable brand of raw, instrumental jazz. After bedazzling the stages of reputable Dutch festivals like the North Sea Jazz festival, Jazzfest, Jazz International and being voted audience choice in the 2016 edition of the Dutch Jazz Competition they have come up with a new masterpiece: “EGO”, full of daring improvisation, rock riffs, humor, mood swings, rhythmic and melodic adventures and everything else these four men, supporting appropriate facial hair, could come up with.
