Traces
Opening Traces
On Friday the 17th of November, curator Nadine van den Bosch will open her first exhibition Traces for Garage Rotterdam.
Artists: Isabelle Andriessen, Maurice van Es, Alex Farrar, Vibeke Mascini, Narges Mohammadi, Noor Nuyten, Clémence de la Tour du Pin.
The scent of perfume, a cloud of breath dissolving in cold air, a tiny drop of sweat or the dying echo of a word that was spoken long ago. These are fragments of an impression that we wanted to leave behind, separated from the person to which they belong. We strive to create the best possible first impression, but we have no control over the hyper personal traces that remain after we disappear.
This emotional residue lingers in the room after our departure. The traces that we unintentionally left behind disappear as time goes by, slowly dissolving and becoming one with the world around us.
The exhibition Traces shows the slowly disappearing traces of our presence that is no longer there. What remains in the end are the memories that we leave behind – traces in
someone else’s brain.
Brandstof: Whimper
Brandstof together with the artist Alex Farrar.
The purpose of our eyelashes is to protect our eyes and our vision. Despite their inconspicuous form, eyelashes are immediately identifiable as being ‘of us’. Under the title of Whimper – which could be a misspelling of the Dutch word ‘wimper’ – the artist Alex Farrar will make a site-specific intervention with eyelashes collected from the floor of Garage Rotterdam. This edition of Brandstof will highlight our corporeality and produce an intimate encounter between visitors to the exhibition Traces.
Natafelen: fine dining among art
During Natafelen on Friday 12 January 2024, we will celebrate the new year with a culinary event in the midst of the artworks out of the current exhibition Traces. Enjoy a vegetarian four-course menu by chef Marnix Benschop and wine pairing by the Gouden Ton, while listening to talks by curator Nadine van den Bosch and the artists out of the exhibition.
