Underdeveloped Library (2025)

Limestone Books, starting in 2024, invited Maastricht-based organisations – including Refugee Project Maastricht and UM Pride – to curate a selection of books reflecting the issues they advocate for, or text that hold significance for their members. Alongside the – English and Chinese – collection of Limestone Books, all contributions form a Community Library: an evolving assemblage where residents of Maastricht can borrow books. This forms a window into the city’s cultural landscape, an infrastructure of shared knowledge and exchange.

For Underdeveloped #2, Limestone Books collaborates with Yen-Ting Kuan to invite several Rotterdam-based organisations and individuals, such as And so on Books, Zilvervisjes, Sarmad Platform, Kiosk, Space 101 and Florian Cramer, to construct a temporary library for ten weeks at Garage Rotterdam. Each participating organisation contributes with a small selection of books and offers a brief reflection on their choices. Why these books, and for whom? The underlying premise remains constant: books as sites of community-building, cross-organisational dialogue and infrastructural entanglement.

During Underdeveloped #2, Limestone Books and Yen-Ting Kuan will continue inviting organisations and individuals to expand the bookshelf.
