Kikulacho (The thing that eats you) I & II (2025)

In Kikulacho I & II, Agnes Waruguru continues her exploration into material, memory and transformation. Related to her earlier series Remnants — created from pieces of fishing net she collected during daily walks on the Kenyan island of Lamu — these new works also arise from a process of gathering, soaking and waiting. Bed linens and cotton from old clothing are dipped in natural and synthetic dyes, to then place onto paper. As the pigments spread like water, Waruguru draws on what appears: an attempt to capture the movement of fabric, time and memory.
