Saar Scheerlings

Saar Scheerlings began her visual art career after studying at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. She combines art, design and craftsmanship in her work, exploring processes that lead to new forms and expressions. Her oeuvre includes large ceramic vases as painted maps, paintings that resemble textiles, quirky decanters and soft monumental sculptures. For Scheerlings, techniques and materials are not fixed; she prefers to create her own playfield and rules. Her interest in daily life reflects her design background, but she mainly focuses on the rituals, traditions, and processes that give objects meaning, rather than their industrial production and use.
