Dutch Landscape 13 (2025)

Dutch Landscape is a longstanding ongoing work by artist and architect José Quintanar, focusing on the depiction of Dutch landscapes. Outdoors, he captures the essence of a landscape through simple line drawings. These drawings are then dissected into their constituent lines and rearranged into new configurations. The landscape itself disappears; what remains is its underlying structure, translated into an instrument in the form of a series of wooden rulers or stickers. The drawing no longer functions as an image, but as a system – an open matrix that generates multiple, changing arrangements. The work, which takes shape in the form of 15 stickers on the window and 51 wooden rulers distributed across the back wall of Garage Rotterdam, transforms the exhibition space into a spatial score.
