Unknown Landscape
Monali Meher her installation Unknown Landscape (2019–2025) incorporates natural, ephemeral materials that highlight the transient nature of existence. Natural elements such as soil, bark, twigs, seashells, coal and recycled glass sculptures find each other within this organic patchwork.
The installation evokes the qualities of a relief painting, a sensibility reinforced by Meher’s use of blue and yellow pigments. Her materials are rich in metaphor – most notably turmeric, used as the yellow pigment, which symbolizes purification.
In South Asian cultures, turmeric is traditionally applied as an antiseptic for wounds, burns, and bruises, carrying both healing and spiritual significance. With her installation Unknown Landscape, Monali Meher reflects on themes of migration, loss, and transformation, using mixed media, glass, and natural elements to create a dynamic and evolving assemblage.
