In the work Two Boys, two boys are only partially visible behind a layer of textile. Their faces and bodies are alternately concealed and revealed by the open pattern, causing the image to shift continuously between visibility and obscurity.
Bandeh explores how identity can never be fully seen, but is always shaped by personal experience, cultural background and the ways in which we look at one another. The textile evokes associations with domesticity and memory, while at the same time acting as a veil that creates distance. What lies behind the layers of the work never fully reveals itself.
