R.I.P. MR-711 R.I.P. Lee Enfield Mark (2019)

In her film The Undertaker, Yael Bartana presents fossilized weapons as speculative artifacts from a future where societies have overcome violence. These sculptural pieces, displayed like archaeological finds, are modeled after the firearms carried in the film’s procession and burial ritual.

By transforming weapons into relics, Bartana critiques contemporary gun culture and envisions a world in which such instruments of destruction are relegated to history. This approach challenges viewers to reconsider the permanence of violence and the possibility of a peaceful future.
