Public Workplace (2024)

In the back of the exhibition space you can see a workshop area with power tools for wood working, basic bike repair, a printing space, computer and more. The tools of the workshop are available to use by you, after receiving a safety training from the artist Tomi Hilsee (on appointment).

The primary function of the workshop will be to aid the construction of a PublicCart – transformed into a file-cabinet type archive of squatting in Rotterdam. This archive is developed through a series of archive-working-days with squatters to document projects and coalitions from the past five years. The space of Garage Rotterdam will be used to build the physical infrastructure.

Outside of Garage Rotterdam you can see a framed awning, remaining from the first edition of Underdeveloped. This awning accumulates (hanging) expressions from exhibiting artists and volunteers from the Doe Het Zelf Garden of Learning, bringing stories and effects to the street.
