The works shown here are part of a new series in which Atousa Bandeh observes the world from her studio. From her window, she looks onto a courtyard where minor asylum seekers gather, while the sun sets above them night after night. This daily encounter with vulnerability, hope and the passing of time forms the starting point for the series.
Boy in a Yellow Vest depicts a boy wearing a bright yellow vest that immediately draws the eye, while his identity remains impossible to grasp at a glance. The layered combination of paint, textile and decorative patterns refers to the cultural, personal and social filters through which we look at others. The work invites us to move beyond first impressions and consider the stories that may remain hidden behind the facade.
