A Body To Come Back To (2023)

In the analogue photo series A Body To Come Back To (2023-2024), Aimée Zito Lema investigates how personal and social memory becomes anchored in the body. She uses her own body as a performative tool: pressing, carrying and touch become gestures of remembering. Objects with personal resonance — such as her father’s coat and the T-shirt she wore during the birth of her first child — are placed in direct contact with light-sensitive material. This reveals marks, imprints and textures. The materiality of analogue print — stains, edges, imperfections — highlights the sense of physical closeness. The result is a fragile dialogue between body, matter, personal memory and collective history.
