Yoko Ono

Yoko Ono (b. 1933, Tokyo) is a pioneering multimedia artist whose work spans conceptual art, performance, film, music, and installation. Emerging from the avant-garde scenes of New York and Tokyo in the early 1960s, she became closely associated with the experimental networks around Fluxus while maintaining an independent practice. Ono is known for her instruction-based works, participatory environments, and event scores that invite viewers to imagine, enact, or complete the artwork themselves. Her practice foregrounds language, perception, and interaction, often emphasizing simplicity, poetic gestures, and audience involvement.
