Silvia B.
Silvia B. (born in the Netherlands, 1963) is well-known for her sculptures of hybrid figures caught between age, gender and culture, and between human, animal and doll. In addition to her iconic sculptures, she creates drawings and photographs, and also curates various projects.
Her work, made with meticulous precision and a great deal of patience, coaxes visitors to take a closer look, and is characterised by a constant battle between attraction and repulsion. This is a duality that emanates from her vision of the world and how people behave according to the so-called codes of civilisation while still being driven by their instinctive fears and desires. Silvia B.’s work is a call to challenge the constraints imposed on us from the outside, and to open the door to our deepest desires and ambitions, thus revealing our secret and most imaginative selves.
