Kate Steciw
After studying sociology, Kate Steciw gained her master’s degree in photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2016, solo exhibitions of her work were held at Galerie Neumeister Bar-Am in Berlin and Brand New Gallery in Milan.
Kate Steciw makes photographic collages, assemblages and sculptures that are compiled from digital stock images. In 2011 Steciw wrote an essay in which she described the JPEG as a tool for telling subjective narratives. This enables Steciw to create new narratives from recognisable forms. While Steciw used to use Photoshop to transform internet images to abstract compositions, her new works are hand-made. For the first time she also incorporates her own self-made images or even images that she has used in previous works.
