Aimée Zito Lema
Visual artist Aimée Zito Lema (Amsterdam, 1982) explores how social memory is formed, transmitted, and embodied. In her practice, the body emerges both as a vessel of lived experience and as an agent of resistance. Zito Lema studied at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA) in Buenos Aires, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, and holds a Master’s degree in Artistic Research from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
Her work has been presented widely in international exhibitions. Recent solo shows include 214322 at Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam (2019), 13 Shots at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, Lisbon (2018), Imprinted Mater at Looiersgracht 60, Amsterdam (2017), and A Series of Gestures at Kunsthall Trondheim (2017). She has participated in group exhibitions such as 2 Unlimited at De Appel, Amsterdam (2018), Idiorritmias and Muestreo #1 at MACBA, Barcelona (2017), the 11th Gwangju Biennial (2016), the Dorothea von Stetten Art Award at Kunstmuseum Bonn (2016), Horse Pistes, L’art de la Révolte at Centre Pompidou, Paris (2016), and New Habits at Casco, Utrecht (2014).
Zito Lema was an artist in residence at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (2015–2016). Her recent work has been supported by the Mondriaan Fund, the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, and the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund. She lives and works in Amsterdam and is represented by tegenboschvanvreden.
